1. What is the value of ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Directrix (directrix):

12 + 4 [ (20 - 6) + 8] Work from the inside out.

Directrix (directrix):

12 + 4 [ (20 - 6) + 8] = 12 + 4 [ (14) + 8] =

Directrix (directrix):

12 + 4 [ (14) + 8] = 12 + 4 [ 22] = ? @Mia_is_Awesome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3. Use the Distributive Property and simplify the expression. 6 + 4(3x – 2) + 5 A. 12x + 9 B. 12x + 3 C. 7x + 9 D. 3x + 13

Directrix (directrix):

This first. 12 + 4 [ 22] = ? @Mia_is_Awesome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

Directrix (directrix):

What does it equal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk really

Directrix (directrix):

Use Google then. Put this into the Google search box. The Google calculator will pop up with the answer. Copy and paste it into the box and then post what the Google calculator barfs up: 12 + 4 [ 22]=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does [22] mean multiply then I thought is it [22]4=88+12=100 but they said on the test the answer was 160

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Directrix I found the way they got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it goes like this 6*12+4[(20-6)+8 6*12+4[14+8] 6*12+4[22] 6*12+88 72+88 160

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@pooja195 is this correct

Directrix (directrix):

Is 72 + 4*22 = same thing? I use the [ 3] notation for grouping. It can mean something else. Have you studied the least integer function and the greatest integer function?

Directrix (directrix):

>>72+88 160 Correct.

Directrix (directrix):

I made the error of reading the problem like this: 6. as if the first six were the problem number.

Directrix (directrix):

So, I did not include it in the calculation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's ok

Directrix (directrix):

I am sorry it happened. I should have looked more closely.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am going to take the test again and I hope I get a 100% or 80% this time

Directrix (directrix):

What about that distributive property problem you posted.

Directrix (directrix):

I got 12x + 3 for that. What did you enter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I accidently put down C but before I didn't notice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for 1 my brother got 1,672 as the answer I am never going to ask him for help with math again but he is really good in history
