How did the Edict of Milan contribute to the growth and longevity of the Roman Empire? It made it safe for the larger Christian community to practice their religion. It made it illegal to practice any religion other than Christianity. It created a tax system that helped to fund the Empire. It created a less rigid social class system.

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

A,is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What effect did Marcus Aurelius' actions have on the strength and skill of the Roman army? Officers in the army now achieved promotion based on their social status. Officers in the army now organized into more permanent social rankings. Officers in the army now achieved promotion due to their ability and merit. Officers in the army now controlled larger legions and had more authority.

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

The Edict of Milan made it legal to practice Christianity openly in the Roman Empire. It did not make Christianity the official religion nor did it reunite the Roman Empire. Christianity would not become the official religion for the empire until the Edict of Thessalonica. It's not until the Battle of Chrysopolis that Constantine I would become sole emperor of the Roman Empire. He would still need to reconquer parts to. The Edict of Milan made it so that Christianity was legal to practice in the Empire and it reaffirmed the importance of religion in the Roman Empire. Without it Christianity might not have ever become such a big religion It's arguable that the Edict played a role in the official dividing up of the empire in to Eastern and Western halves with to capital and that this played a role in the fall of the western half. It's also arguable that it played a role in establishing the eastern half of the empire and that this helped keep the Roman Empire through the Byzantium Empire. Big argument that one could write a large academic paper on or maybe even a book on. HENCE, A is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why did a group known as theologians arise during the Roman Empire rather than the Roman Republic? They wrote about Christianity which had not yet developed during the Roman Republic. They wrote about Roman conquests that happened after the Roman Republic declined. They wrote about the tetrarchy form of government that was used during the Roman Empire. They wrote about the development of Stoicism during the Roman Empire.

OpenStudy (aaronandyson):

Well Christian theology is the enterprise which seeks to construct a coherent system of Christian belief and practice. A lot of people in that time period were becoming more and more religiously minded and more were embracing the Christian faith. this resulted in a rise in the theologians. so the answer is A
