Using each of the numbers 1-9 exactly once, each of the blanks below can be filled to create a true statement (example: 519 + 327 = 846). _ _ _ + _ _ _ = _ _ _ Find 15 more solutions. (Hint: Think about how you can you use one solution to generate more solutions.)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

interesting problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it possible to find a single solution to generate the rest of the 15 solutions?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

You may use the solution given in example : `519 + 327 = 846`

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i use that to generate the rest?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

I'll give a hint for generating few solutions using the given example. Look at the left hand side sum. Do you think swapping the digits in units place affect the value of sum ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\[51\color{red}{9} + 32\color{red}{7} = 846\] swap them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it doesn't!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it still equals the same amount

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good, try swapping ten's place and hundred's place also and see if it affects the sum

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\[5\color{red}{1}9 + 3\color{red}{2}7 = 846\] swap them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, its still the same! and for the hundreds its the same as well. what does this mean?!

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

it means you're creating a true statement just by swapping the numbers' places.
