I'm confused...I know giving \(direct\) answers aren't allowed, but is giving an answer and explaining it thoroughly later okay, or is guiding the asker to the answer the better thing to do? I frequently do the latter, so I was wondering.
Thats allowed by some mods @amistre64 says dont give answers at all just guide the user
Most mods consider giving a full explanation with the answer a direct answer. The asker could just scroll to the bottom of the explanation you worked so hard to type out for them, take the answer, and go on to ask the same question.
OpenStudy is all about the learned process. You spend 30 minutes writing an explanation and at the end give the asnwer. That user doesn't wnat to read all of that. He will skip through the end, take the asnwer and thank you. So it is better off to make sure that the asker participates, so that way he will learn something. because what if he has a test? He can't log on to OS and ask you. That is why make sure to engage the asker in the question and not just explain it for him :)
Oh okay guys, I got it! :D
Thanks :D
No problem! Also, what I do if the asker is offline, is I do the problem, but leave a few steps for them to do.
Me and @sleepyjess kind of said the same thing xD
Your welcome :) also you can simply ask "what do you think?" just to get the askers participation :)
Okay :)
No moderator should ban you for giving complete and thorough explanations. So it's your choice. Don't take this stuff seriously. Do what you think is right.
Oh I'm sorry...the "latter" was put on the wrong side...I actually ask what people think first, it's what I always say on every problem @ParthKohli XD
