for a fighter jet to take off from the deck of an aircraft carrier, it must reach a speed of 62 m/s. what is the speed in miles per hour? Please explain the best you can.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

You need to do a few conversions. m/s=meters per second you want to get it into miles per hour. i'd start by multiplying 62m/s to get it into hours, instead of seconds you'd do that by multiplying by 3600. ( to minutes, then hours) you'll have 223,200 meters an hour to get meters into miles just know that 1 mile=1609.34meters divide and finish the conversions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This might be a stupid question but how do you get 3600?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Second>>Minute>>Hour 1 secondx60=1 minutes x 60=1 hour 60 x 60=3600

Okay, sorry I was adding 60+60 for some reason. Thank you. I got 138.69 so to fit my answer choices I have I put it in scientific notation of 1.38 x 10^2 however, my only choice close to this is 1.4 x 10^2 would this be the answer?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Can you post all your choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. 120mph B. 1.4 x 10^2 C. 8.4 x 10^3 D. 300mph

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Definitely 1.4 x 10^2. That is 140mph, which is very close to 138-139.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you i have a few more, do you have time to help? I'm studying for my test next tuesday

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Sure. Make a new question and tag me. Feel free to medal and fan :)
