Solve the equation for y: 6x + 11y = 17 A. y = -6x + 17 B. y = -6x/11 + 17 C. 11y = -23x D. y = -6x/11 + 17/11

OpenStudy (danjs):

subtract 6x from both sides , then divide both sides by 11, y =

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Darn mid terms. and ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11y = -23x? @DanJS

Nnesha (nnesha):

you cannot combine them

OpenStudy (kohai):

You kind of have the right idea. But remember, you can't combine unless they're like terms. So it would be 11y=17-6x. How would you isolate y then?

Nnesha (nnesha):

|dw:1422851414370:dw| when you subtract 6x boht side you cannot combine -6x and 17 they are not like terms 17 doens't have any varaible but -6 have x

OpenStudy (kohai):

So how do you isolate y from there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Honestly im not really sure im not the best at this and havnt done it in awhile...

OpenStudy (kohai):

Ok. 11y means that 11 and y are multiplied together. What is the opposite of multiplication?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Division.

OpenStudy (kohai):

Right. So you would divide by 11 to get y by itself. What would that look like? Write it out for me.
