How can I distinguish between the three stages of Interphase (G1, S, and G2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@madisonfrerk Well, those are all in interphase, not M phase. In G1 the cell is just growing and doing its regular duties. In S stage the cell duplicates its DNA. Once the duplication is complete it moves to G2 and grows and prepares for M phase. So, if you know the normal amount of DNA in a cell you can see if it is in G2 by the increased DNA. S phase is very short compared to how long G1 and G2 can last, plus the DNA should be actively being replicated.

Oh, the first sentence is not meant to insinuate you said anything wrong, just repeating for others who read.
