Veronica teaches French in groups of four students. She rents a room for $200 per month. She charges $45 per hour per student. Veronica teaches seven groups of students, and her net earnings per month are $6,100. Part A: If each student learns French for the same number of hours, write an equation that can be used to calculate the number of hours each student learns French in a month. (5 points) Part B: How many hours did each student learn French each month? Show your work and justify each step of your work. (5 points)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the equation should look something like this for Part A: \[7\times4\times45x -200=6,100\]

7 students 4 groups $45 each $200 rent $6,100 monthly

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

what grade math is this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9th

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But is going over 8th grade stuff because it was taught in the beginning of the year

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

im only in 8th its right but i dont know i f you should trust me or not thatsn your desicion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I do. I just want to see if the equation is right. & if you can I kinda need help on part b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You think it's right?

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

i know its right i didnt know if you were going to believe the 8th grader

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol, I believe you completely!!! Thank you :)

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

no problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know if you can do part B? Although I am not in public school either so I am not sure what you would be learning right now..

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

IM online schooled so i can certainly try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, :)

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

If im telling you wrong though please feel free to take the medal back

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

are you typing or is it just saying your typing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have gotten this far: There are 4 groups of 7 students \[7\times4=28\] There are 28 students now. Her earnings (after tax expenses) are 6,100 a month. But she charges $45 a month per student (another equation): \[28\times45=1260\] Now to solve the equation in order to find x amount of hours I have to treat this entire problem as if it is a 1 variable equation. \[200-1260x=6100\] This gives me x= about 5 hours per student.

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

Good job thats spot on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, yea I figured out a different equation that looked way more correct than what I had :)

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

and i said it was rigt and it wasnt so i was wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, lol yea no worries!!!

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

were you taking a test on what i told you
