62 is 90.5% of what number

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

so, you want to try and set up an equation

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

"Something" times 0.905 will equal 62...what is it? \[\large 0.905x = 62\] how would you solve for 'x'?

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

if you don't know something, you insert a variable of choice like x, y etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, well if 62 is 90% of a number, we need to find what 100% of the number is i.e. the whole number. The easiest way to do this, is to first find out what 1% of the number is. This can be done by dividing 62 by 90 (because we do the same to both sides of the equation, so 90% --> 1%, 62 --> 62/90 = 0.68888) 62 = 90% 0.6888 = 1% Now we need to turn that into 100%, so we multiply both sides of the equation by 100. So 1% --> 100%, and 0.6888 ---> 68.888 0.6888 = 1% 68.8888 = 100% Your answer is 68.888, which you can round to 68.89 (to 2 decimal places). Hope that helps!

@MAli13chineta @TheEdwardsFamily If you give the user an answer, they won't learn anything. If you give them an explanation with it, they might only look at the end and take the answer and thank you. OpenStudy values the learning process. The asker won't learn anything by an answer. o guide him to it step-by-step by engaging him in the post.
