Biology Question...please help

@aaronq @Ashleyisakitty @akonkel @Alieen @bohotness @beastieman21 @brittanydosey @basketball3000 @dan815 @Destinymasha @Data_LG2

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

Alright, let's think about this. In question #3 they pretty much give us a hint. "share a common ancestor" What word comes to mind first? Descent. Which means someone's background or ancestry. We now know that the answer for the first question is D. Common descent. See how that works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alrighty, I got that one right. Can you help with 4 and 5? @Destinymasha

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

Yes. Tell me what you think the answers may be.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4. d 5.c What do you think? @@Destinymasha

@Destinymasha

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

For #4: So why is a tree always used to portray the principle of common descent? Well if you've seen a tree before, you would notice that it has one trunk -- but many branches stemming from it. These represent the organisms. The trunk is the common ancestor we all have ; the branches are the species that came from it. I tried simplifying it. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I see. So, C would be correct for #4?

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

For #5: Yes, I'm thinking option choice C - "birds and reptiles share a number of inherited characteristics". The reason why I know that is the answer is because of the keyword: inherited. They inherited those similar structures from a common ancestor. Which backs up the theory.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean D for #4?

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

When the relationships between species are mapped out, branches spread out from a common trunk, resembling a tree? Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so 4 is D and 5 C. Thank you so much

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

Both questions are C ~ You're welcome, my pleasure (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct :)
