HI!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

make any proportion you like for example \[\frac{x-1}{16}=\frac{6}{12}\]

OpenStudy (misty1212):

or \[\frac{x-1}{32}=\frac{6}{24}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I solve that proportion

OpenStudy (misty1212):

"cross multiply" as the math teacher say

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\[\frac{x-1}{16}=\frac{6}{12}\\ 12(x-1)=16\times 6\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=8?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

or you could notice that \(\frac{6}{12}=\frac{1}{2}\)so \[\frac{x-1}{16}=\frac{1}{2}\\ 2(x-1)=16\]

OpenStudy (misty1212):

yeah 8

OpenStudy (misty1212):

ooh wait hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sweet thanks

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\[2(x-1)=16\] the answer is not 8

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\[2x-2=16\\ 2x=18\\ x=9\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, lol yea my bad.
