Why is an object's weight dependent upon where in the universe it is located?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Weight is dependent on the mass of the object and the gravitational force of the nearest massive body (usually a planet, moon, star or black hole), also dictated by it's mass. Also your distance from the center of that body, you weigh less the higher up on a mountain you get, for instance.
