Not to offend anyone. This is just an observation. When thomaster opened a sarcastic post about congratulatory posts, mostly everyone agrees with him. After that I noticed that people who are very active in OS (who used to congratz people everytime) started commenting that "they are tired of these kind of posts" on someone else's post that they don't know. HOWEVER, if they do know the person who achieve something, their comments are very nice. I mean, since they are well-known in OS that much, everyone is jumping in and keep agreeing on what they are doing.
I love openstudy and I'm not going against it (never). It helped me a lot. It's just that other people are abusing it in a way that some important elements in openstudy have been deteriorated. Anyway, this is just my 'feedback' for now. I'm just stating my honest opinions. I don't want to mention any names, but I'm obeserving you guys.Btw, congrats again for anyone who is having a raise in their SS if that what makes you feel special! The essence of reaching it has gone :)
it might be that I'm sleepy, but I'm not quite getting what your main point is? are you saying our users should stop jumping on band wagons and be less bias?
Ya, I think that's what he's getting at. I remember on my 75 post, there was this whole argument on this topic. I wasn't expecting anything for reaching 75, but it makes you feel special that other users care. I guess those posts make you feel welcome.
but if it is that point... then there is nothing we can change we can't change how our users act in reaction to others it's not some sort of rule we can implement :P and it might just be the personality of this group of users at this point in time and thomaster's point had been that there should not be more than one post of congratulations, not that such posts aren't allowed. Happy Birthdays, Congratulation posts on person achievements in relation to OpenStudy or OpenStudy achievements are all allowed.
Right, I agree with thomaster in saying that there shouldn't be more than one post a person on their achievement. And I also agree that the congratulating people gets a little too extreme. I've seen people being congratulated on new titles, so many fans and all this other stuff. I'll congratulate that person because it is an achievement. But I don't really see the need in making a post because you got say the Human Calculator in mathematics.
Those are exactly my point. I know we can't do anything about it, but I'm just stating what I observe these past few days. There should be a way where Openstudy can minimize these. I have no idea how but there should be ....
to tell people to be more open minded and be nice to everyone? yeah sure, I'll try to spread the word :)
We can be the Fearsome Threesome.
Haha, my opinion is that people should be congratulated for bigger things sch as reaching 99, 75, getting a 3,000 SmartScent Title, birthday, becoming a mod/ambassador Making post about smaller things can make the bigger things seem less special (in my opinion)
I wonder who was tired of the birthday posts...it has nothing to do with knowing someone, in actuality who really knows anyone on this site (maybe a few know each other, rare case) a lot of the times, when it comes to birthday posts and reaching a certain SS, you can send the person a direct message congratulating them. Of course I had made a post when I got 99 SS, but over time I realized that's not really important, and should've been considered as spam as I see it now. I'm also very lenient with people, but a high number of users now are just concerned with getting a certain SS, which really isn't the point of OS, though it's great they are helping others and learning themselves, but there are also those who get it using different methods...I would like to see feedback section be used for what it is, rather than having to go on it everyday and see a post congratulating someone for something, or seeing it's somebodies birthday. I'll be honest, do you really care that someone got 99 SS or if it's somebodies birthday?
I thing that people should only congratulate for 99, 3000 medal title and ambassador and mod success. Those are the only things that should be allowed.
I thought we were here to help others, not ourselves. If the Feedback Forum were a "no medal" zone, I wonder how many birthday posts, happy this or that day, and congratulations for this or that would appear. To my thinking, these occasions are for recognition, not medals.
honestly i wouldnt care if it was a person's birthday (unless you are a good internet friend) but i would care if someone reaches 99ss because that motivates me to work harder to reach it @iambatman
I don't care if people get Mod/Ambie/99/75/Titles Because I hate everyone equally.
lol that was quite a bold thought X) ^
People, people. I am all for congratulatory posts. We have started posting them in FB. So be nice. Share good things. Celebrate together. We are a community. And we celebrate together. We care about each other.Right?
Stop it Comp. I might take you seriously.
