Please help...Medal anyone who helps!!!!! What is the orthocenter of the triangle with two altitudes given by the lines X=-1 and Y=X+1????? A.(0,-1) B(-1,0) C. (-1,-2) D. None

OpenStudy (emmaleelooney):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the orthocenter is found by finding the intersection of the altitudes

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

it would be B @emmaleelooney

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what we do is plug x = -1 (the first equation) into y = x+1 to get this y = x+1 y = -1+1 ... replace x with -1 (since x = -1) y = 0 So because x = -1 and y = 0 we know that the point of intersection is (-1,0) and it's shown on the graph (where the two dashed lines cross)

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

Oops i'm not supposed to tell you answers you didn't see that.

OpenStudy (emmaleelooney):

Lol @Holly00d1248...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Holly00d1248, I think if you show them how to get the answer, then it's fine. Just don't flat out give the answer.

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

I'm not joking well maybe just a little

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

@jim_thompson5910 your right

OpenStudy (emmaleelooney):

Thank you @jim_thompson5910 @Holly00d1248 I appreciate the responses... the explanation and the flat out answer... both of them. I used it as a compare and contrast kinda thing. used the explantion to help figure it out and if I didn't get answer B then I knew it was wrong. BOTH helped. @Holly00d1248 @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
