OpenStudy (help!!!!):

3(a-1)square + 2(1-a) Could you show me the steps? I know the answer but I'm confused by a certain method to answer this problem without using distribution

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

\[3\left(a-1\right)^2+2\left(1-a\right)\]

OpenStudy (danjs):

Thought i did this exact prob already

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

you did but there's another method to solve this..

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

by expanding the problem

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

and not using distribution

OpenStudy (danjs):

you cant solve this problem, just simplify or change the form

OpenStudy (danjs):

take a (a-1) out of the first term, then take -1 out of the second term

OpenStudy (danjs):

\[3*(a-1)(a-1)-2(a-1)\]

OpenStudy (danjs):

now factor out (a-1) form both terms

OpenStudy (danjs):

You are still going to have to distribute a little bit

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

ohhhh okey

OpenStudy (danjs):

\[(a-1)*[3(a-1)-2]\]

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

I found out my mistake

OpenStudy (danjs):

still need to distribute that 3(a-1)

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

(a-1)(3a-5)

OpenStudy (danjs):

yeah, thats the same answer as before, from expanding the entire thing, then factoring

OpenStudy (help!!!!):

Thanks for the help

OpenStudy (danjs):

welcome
