OpenStudy (misty1212):
there is nothing to "solve" here because you do not have an equal sign
you can compute \(-5+3=-2\) if you like, but solving requires some sort of equality
you know to add 5 because you want to get x by itself, so you have to get rid of that \(-5\) on the left
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Got it! omg u guys are so helpful!!! <3
OpenStudy (misty1212):
then you get
\[2x=8\] and since \(2\times 4=8\) your answer is \(x=4\)

for example if you ahve this equation:
x+ 5 = -8
then if I subtract 5 from both sides, I get:
x= -13
then the last equation, is equivalent to the original equation.
Please keep in mind that two equations are equivalent if and only f they admit the same solutions

Ok. I have another problem. Can u tell me if I get the right answer?
OpenStudy (misty1212):
kk
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ok. 2x = 8

please divide both sides by 2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x = 4 again!!
OpenStudy (misty1212):
amazing!
OpenStudy (michele_laino):
that's right!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yay! Ok i have another one.

x = 4
OpenStudy (michele_laino):
it is already your solution
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ok haha that was easy irk

I'm posting another question. Will you help me with that one?
