I WILL MEDAL!! Tim has a picture frame that is 30 cm long and 24 cm wide. He wants to make a picture frame that is similar in shape but is 18 cm long. How wide should this second picture frame be?

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

i believe it would be 12cm

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

are you there @help?!?!?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes but I got 14.4

@Holly00d1248

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

just find the ratio 30/18 to find the factor on which you need to multiply 24 to get the width of the new frame

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

actually you should 18/30 because we are making a smaller frame

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

sorry i read the other way

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

you should get a fraction factor

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

3/5 is the ratio so if we multiply 12 by that what should we get

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

lets actually make more simpler \[\frac{30}{18}=\frac{24}{x} \Longrightarrow x=\frac{24}{30}\times 18\]

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

simplify and you get what you are looking for

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):
