You have a frustrating day and just feel like screaming; you grab a pillow to scream into it. Which interaction of sound would take place here, (reflection, refraction or absorption), and how did the sound waves move? Please help me I think it'd be absorption but I'm not sure how the waves move.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it would have to be absorption, as the sound waves are muffled by the contexture of the pillow, and the contents inside of it (feather, stuffing, etc...)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would say.. absorption.. there is definitely a reduction in sound waves so there has to be some sort of energy transfer and yes thats true.. shout for a long time and the pillow starts to get warm..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the pillow gets warm by the air we exhale rather than shouting. if you actually want to see perceivable change in pillow temperature just by shouting, you need to shout for around 5 to 6 years

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if no sound is heard on the other end of the pillow, i presume all the sound has been absorbed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hehe.. you are right..well you can heat up a cup of coffee by shouting at it for like 7 years..
