Describe the change to the parent function. I am not good at this and I don't really know how to describe each parent function. 1. y = -3sqrt x 2. y = 2/5sqrt x 3. y = sqrt -x + 3 4. y = sqrt x - 2 5. y = sqrt x + 2 6. y = sqrt x - 4 7. y = 2 sqrt -x + 1 8. y = - sqrt x - 5 9. y = 4 sqrt x + 3 -1 10. y = -1/3 sqrt x -1 + 3 *My Answers will be in a PDF File*

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well what you might like to use is desmos, a great free graphing site https://www.desmos.com/calculator enter the parent function the enter the others 1 at a time and make the comparison. then delete it and enter the next comparison function. hope it helps

OpenStudy (firejay5):

@campbell_st , I posted my answers, all I need to know is which is wrong and which is right, so I can learn from them.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

what is the parent y = sqrt(x)..?

OpenStudy (firejay5):

y = sqrt x

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok so did you use graphing software..?

OpenStudy (firejay5):

no a graphing calculator; just aheads up that I have school in the morning, so I can't stay on right now and it would be a lot of help you just tell me which is wrong or right since I've done the work basically. I have to go like ASAP, please help me out thanks. *If you could explain the problems that are wrong and what should be added/fixed that would be great, so I have a better picture of I am trying to learn

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok, if its the function, using the definition of a function y = sqrt(x) has a resticted domain x > = 0 range y > = 0 the 1st choice y = -3sqrt(x) the restricted domain becomes x <= 0 range y < = 0 so -3 puts it below the exist and it opens more quickly that's why I suggest you graph these questions so you can see the difference

OpenStudy (firejay5):

I need answer check please and thank you

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well graphing will allow you to check time... it will take a few minutes... probably quicker than someone reading then replying

OpenStudy (triciaal):

1) y = negative *constant * parent constant magnified the value negative a reflection across x- axis

OpenStudy (triciaal):

by the way graphing with desmos as suggested by @campbell_st will show what you need to describe. put on the same grid.

OpenStudy (triciaal):

I am not the expert here but when you add a constant at the end you add to the y value moving the graph up and when you subtract from the value the graph moves down Adjusting the x term shifts the graph to the left or right and as in 1) and 2) the constant in front determines if it expands or shrinks a ratio with the original where the constant is 1
