Help!
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishnes" Charles wingspanens, A Tale of Two Cities What is the advantage of repeating the syntax of the initial clause “It was the”? The monotone creates a feeling of disaster. The parallel words make the reader confused. The pattern suggests that music will be used. The repetition creates a comparison/contrast theme.
We should take out the ones that obviously don't make sense. So, B and C are out for the count.
Okay
Now, check A and D. Is every part of the sentence monotone? Or is it comparing and contrasting the kinds of times?
Comparing and contrasting?
Yes!
So it would be D?
By Victoria Mary Sackville-West When little lights in little ports come out, Quivering down through water with the stars, And all the fishing fleet of slender spars Range at their moorings, veer with tide about; When race of wind is stilled and sails are furled, And underneath our single riding-light The curve of black-ribbed deck gleams palely white, And slumbrous waters pool a slumbrous world; Then, and then only, have I thought how sweet Old age might sink upon a windy youth, Quiet beneath the riding-light of truth, Weathered through storms, and gracious in retreat. Which of the following is true of the text in bold? It explicitly describes the water at night. It explicitly states that people are afraid. It implies the coming of a vast and dangerous storm. It implies the opening of a hidden door. can you help me with this one tooo please
Yes, it will be 'D'. What text is in bold?
And slumbrous waters pool a slumbrous world;
Slumbrous means sleep, more or less, and sleep occurs at night. It can't have anything to do with a storm because the wind is "stilled", and it has nothing to do with a door.
Okay
So what do you think.
Well, you're left with 'A' and 'B'. Is it having to do with night? Or does it relate to people's fear?
I think peoples fear but it confueses me.
Let's try and figure this out, then. What words in the poem make you think of the word "afraid"?
Just kidding lol it would be with having to do with night.
Haha, correct! I was wondering if you'd missed the clue I dropped you.
Thank you soo much!
Anytime!
