Algebra 16 Online
OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

I am not sure if Everyone knows what a PERT test is but it is a college entry test. I have never been successful in studying and memorizing on how to apply algebraic concepts. Khan Academy hardly helps. I am also a virtual school student. My question is what do you guys recommend to study and understand algebraic concepts such as Linear equation, equalities, graphing equalities, and quadratic equations?

Nnesha (nnesha):

practice practice and practice i can help you if u come one hour everyday i'll help you :)

A museum is building a collection of works that are preserved for their value as works of cultural heritage. Which of the following works would be best choice for this collection? OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

Hello @InExileWeTrust and Welcome to OpenStudy! :) here is a tutorial on how to memorize things more effectively made by a moderator @e.mccormick http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/53efe253e4b01789aba6b2ee

Nnesha (nnesha):

we can do step by step i can check your work explain as much as possible not only meh we all try to help you bec other websites there you can't get live help :D

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

Hello @studyowl2847 there is a "Ask a question..." box to the left for your to post and ask you're own questions :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

@Nnesha thanks! I will try to come in everyday. I am not actually in algebra I anymore. I am taking Algebra II but my confidence is low because I barely made it out of algebra I. I passed the state test by three points. I need to understand algebra by like not even may. It would be the deadline for test results and dual enrollment applications.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

Also thanks! @sleepyhead314

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

you can start by doing practice problems of the topics you need the most help on, if you get stuck just ask it as a question post on here, and our helpers will do our best to guide you through it! :)

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

Thank you guys so much! I am new here and already like this site!

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

By the way, what "Bump" do?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Bump, well, bumps your question to the top. And Close lets other people know that you don't need help anymore :)

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

it brings your question to the top of the questions list on the left they are usually sorted by asked time, and bumping it brings more attention to it :)

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

oh!

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

okay, makes sense

Nnesha (nnesha):

ohh okay then i will recommend you to come here (not whole day just 1 or 2 is enough i guess :D ) okay so i was saying you can ask question or help some users let me tell u something about meh i joined this site for asking question but after few months i start helping other users it gve me soooo muchhh confidience now i can stand at front of 100 student and explain math question (that's what i think)

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

Nice! That is why I joined too. I am trying to take extra classes to graduate early.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

Math is one I really struggled in. I am hoping to find a short cut somehow to take classes to cover math up but I still need about .5 credits to graduate. This was where I fell in a hole.

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

to practice a lot is the right idea, but I personally don't have a list of practice problems to give you to work one :/ would you like for me to find you some? or are you set and just need guidence on how to do them?

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

One semester in college for dual enrollment doubles it's worth in my school. So half a credit in college is one whole credit in high school.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

Sure thing! I could use some help right now. I am not active in my class. It is loading a little bit late. It is offline pretty much to me and I have no access.

Nnesha (nnesha):

what topic are u studying at school ??

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

Algebra II. But I struggled in geometry and Algebra I so my confidence is a bit low.

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

oh if you already understand most of algebra 1, then take a look at some of the questions to the left and see if you can help helping others with their questions really gave me a confidence boost and it feels good when I can go "oh hey, I remember how to do that!"

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

I don't understand most of algebra. I mean I could do baby basics. I barely passed the state test. But I do know what you mean. I have been answering some question but mostly in Biology.

Nnesha (nnesha):

but when you start helping other users here then be a teacher not solve all question for them ask question tell them to do some work too explain nd let them do their work its help you to imprve ur math skills

Nnesha (nnesha):

ohh so u r sciencelover :D

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

ea, science is my life! And good idea on answering and asking questions too.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I have been doing more study on memory and one of the big keys is recall. I have said that before, but more recent results show it to be even larger than before. So get practice tests, quizzes on related topics, and do your best. Another thing is to study something, say a book, and then put it aside and do your best to summarize what you just learned. Then check to see how accurate you were. This should NOT be large chunks, say 15 min reading, 5 min summary, a couple minutes to check and correct, take a break for say one good song, walk around, stretch, use the facilities if needed, then repeat. This should take you 25 to 30 minutes per mini session and uses self testing and correction in small sections to flag what is important and point out mistakes/missed sections early in reading. In my memory post I go over proper flash cards. A flash card for a word with a long definition is BAD. That is wrote memory and useless. For definitions you need to be able to make your version and be able to define sub terms. That rakes summarizing and self testing. Flash cards are a good part of that self testing when both sides are questions. Basically, every question can be asked at least two ways! 1+2 = ? or, 1 + ? = 3 is the simple example. The same is true for things like, "What is George Washington's birthday?" and "What famous person was born on February 22, 1732?" So you put one question one side of the card, the other question on the other side, and use them to self test at any point in time you are free! Waiting in line for food? Self test! Got to class 5 minutes early? Self test! Little brother hogging the shower? Self test! Etc.
