If the hypotenuse of a right triangle is 13 and the one of its legs is 5, find the area of the triangle.

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

the other side is 12 root of (13^2 - 5^2)

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

The area = 1/2 * 5 * 12 = 6 * 5= 30

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Hint: use Pythagoras to solve for x. |dw:1423342045816:dw| Area of triangle is base*height/2

Thx

For all integers r and s, r * s = r/s+ s^2 Find the Value of 9 * 3 (a) 11 (b) 9 (c) 12 (d) 7 (e) 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TrojanPoem Answer again plz :P

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

9 * 3 = 9/3 + 3^2 = 12

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

r = 9 s = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im like here being so stupid

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

No , I liked the question. everyone 'd calculate it 27 not 12 xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

True dat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My hw is so confusing for me :(

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

Need help ? Don't hesitate to ask

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're too nice I guess i will do it

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

Thanks. But I am not joking ,I really would like to help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the value of the expression 4xy+ 5z^2 when x=4, y= -3 z= -2

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

4 * 4 * -3 + 5 * 4 = -28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No wonder Made a tiny mistake and couldnt find my answer..

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

You kept the - ? 5* -4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

Cya

@602 are you working on groups? Perhaps the operator "*" does not mean multiply. What is your current topic?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Does the operator look like this? |dw:1423346302443:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1423346447442:dw|

OpenStudy (mathmate):

So it does look like this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah...? Why?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Because everyone thinks that you are referring to * meaning multiplication. This symbols is usually used to mean a new operator "invented" for the question. So all you have to do is to follow the definition of the operator: "For all integers r and s, r * s = r/s+ s^2 Find the Value of 9 * 3" and calculate accordingly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But...it is referring to muliplication

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Does it have a circle around the multiplication sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Ok, so I backtrack what I said, which does not apply to the case! Thank you for your time.
