OpenStudy (mattyboyy):

Can someone help? Describe the ADP molecule and its function within a cell.

OpenStudy (mattyboyy):

I believe ADP is for long term usage but that's all I know

OpenStudy (mattyboyy):

@jagr2713

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

that is composed of adenosine and two linked phosphate groups, and that is converted to ATP for the storage of energy in living cells.

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

@mattyboyy

OpenStudy (somy):

not storage @jagr2713 but usage it has nothing to do with storage

OpenStudy (mattyboyy):

Is thats its function though? @jagr2713

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

sorrry typo

OpenStudy (somy):

its function is to ' provide ' energy for cellular reactions ADP itself is stable when another phosphate group is added - it becomes ATP which is unstable and highly energetic when we need energy ATP comes and gives its highly energetic phosphate group - which is basically energy that will be used by the reaction

OpenStudy (somy):

to be precise ADP acts as precursor to ATP formation and not just ATP but there are more molecules to which it can act as precursor

OpenStudy (mattyboyy):

Thanks guys

OpenStudy (somy):

no problem
