need help with elimination method 4y+2x=18 3x+6y=26 @satellite73

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply the first equation all the way across by \(-3\) then add and the y terms will go bye bye leaving only one equation in \(x\)

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

have u tried doing what satellite told u? @dontre

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but I am not understanding

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

okay r u familiar with elimination? or u don't know how to solve this one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I cant get the x and they by themselves so I can eliminate them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

typo...the y

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

that's for substitution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

:) i'll help u with this one...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

okay good :) can u distribute -3 to the entire equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes...writing on paper...-12y...-6x...would I multiply the 18 also

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

yep or u can write is the white board so i can see ur steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-3) 4y + 2x=18 12y + 6x = -54

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

|dw:1423345081371:dw| i'm eliminating the x's sorry i messed up in the first one =(
