Using the illustration below, calculate the area of the circle. 380 ft2 84 ft2 30.25 ft2 95 ft2

do you know the formula to find the area of a circle? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A = pi * r^2

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yepp :) So can you see in our diagram that they give you the diameter? The picture shows that the diameter = 11ft (Note: diameter = 2 * radius) And we want to find the RADIUS. So we have to divide 11ft by 2 :) Then you can plug your radius into the area of a circle formula :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11/2 = 5.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11 = 2 * 5.5 ?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

hmm.. your first step was correct! Diameter = 11 So radius (r) = 11/2 = 5.5 ft Then you use the area of the circle formula : pi*r^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what will be the pi?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

do you know how to use pi on your calculator? you can also use pi = 3.14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so it would be 3.14 * 5.5^2 ?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yess ! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.14 * 30.25 = 94.985

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yep! :) Now if you round it to a whole number, you would get 95 ft ^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks so much

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

you're welcome :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use A= pi D^2/4
