A box plot is another name for a histogram. A. True B. False
what do you think?
Can you define a box plot? Then define a histogram.
ok a box plot, A box plot is a graphical rendition of statistical data based on the minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile, and maximum. A Histogram a diagram consisting of rectangles whose area is proportional to the frequency of a variable and whose width is equal to the class interval.
Do they both measure the same things?
If they do, then your answer is true. If not then false.
Think about it. Do histograms show quartiles?
yes?
Alright. Can you tell means from a box plot? Can you tell means from a histogram?
I know for sure on the historgram but im not to sure on the box plot if you can tell the mean..
Think about it. Do box plots show you every piece of data used to form the graph or just quartiles, the maximum x, and minimum x?
no they dont show you every piece...
So, if histograms will show each piece (or at least some range of them) and box plots wont, are they the same thing?
no it would be false then!
Am I right?
yes. Box plots show you just quartiles and the maxX and minX while histograms will give you a better idea of each piece of data--histograms, at the least, give you a range instead of data in which each piece falls onto, but have every piece represented on it.
