could someone explain the Principle of Independence to me?
Is this statistics?
yes
An independent event is where the event's probability is not affected by another event.
For example. Say we were modelling time studied for math vs grade on math test. So Grade on math test is not a independent variable, because your grade is dependent on the amount of time you studied for the test.
But say we had another example, time studied for history vs grade on math test. Now it's independent, because time studied for history test, has NO affect on your grade in the math test.
the idea is, independant events are not affected by previous events. Say you were drawing balls out of a bag, the number of balls changes every time you draw a ball right? This is a dependent event. Say you were drawing balls out of a bag, but putting them back in the bag every time. This is independent to how many times you draw, the number of balls do not change.
