"As a new jar I am empty and open" is an example of a: A) metaphor B) hyperbole C) simile D) paradox

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Youre welcome :) think of it as a claim that is not meant to be taken literal which would be a hyperbole

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, hyperbole is exaggeration. Sorry, it's not B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simile: a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid (e.g., as brave as a lion, crazy like a fox ). So, C is actually correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes you are right! I was thinking of a hyperbole to be a claim not meant to be taken literal but in the text he/she is clearly comparing themselves to an empty jar, thus making it a simile

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree. Both metaphors and similes compare two things, but since it says like or as, it is a simile.
