Ah, yes well. I understand the code of conduct and I know we should not just plainly give out the answers, but most of the times and its quite difficult to keep my composure at time, but instead ask "What do you think" and just tell them if their right or wrong, and then bluntly give out the answer. I think we should put more support on leading the person in need, and explaing why instead of just telling them, "What do you think the answer is? Oh well, you're wrong. Its actually this." And give more positive support on " You're close. This could be the right answer because yada yada".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Best resolution is to have people use their best judgment. that is what i think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but yea good idea

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

I usually provide links to helpful sources.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand that @confluxepic but, even with links to resources, you need to give it a little touch to make sure the person answering understand why the answer is what it is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the person asking*

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

Okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with you. I hate when people ask "What do you think?" It's SO annoying. It doesn't help whatsoever.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Well when you ask a question, you have to be as clear as possible. Remember OpenStudy is about the Learning process. Not giving an answer process. So when you post a question, you should make sure you include your full question. And also include what you think it is AND why you think that is the correct answer. This applies for Multiple Choice Questions. For more on asking good questions :P : http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/54b70fcde4b04eed2e563793 Also when you help someone, its better off to ask them what they know about the question. You can give them a few links to read to guide them to the answer. But do not give them links that just has an answer and no explanation. But like I said, OpenStudy values the Learning Process. So make sure to guide them to the answer. Ask them questions to help guide them to understanding what they have to do to solve the problem. Because remember an answer won't help them when they have to take a test because they don't know how to get to the answer.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Oh yea.. Also when you ask a question its best to show what work you have done, and what part you are confused at. So that us helpers can assist you better.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TheSmartOne you somehow always manage to answer my questions the best. I have a great respect for you and your answers. Thank you for giving I detailed explanation and helping me better myself and this site. ^-^

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Thanks :D It is my pleasure to answer your questions too :)

Lot of times I ask what they had difficulty with rather than for their guess. Try and find the real problem, even if it is being lazy, and address that. In some cases they will say, "When when it asks for... I get confused." So I can help define that topic and presto, they can work through it now. Other times they keep on saying they don't understand any of it. I'll ask which words they do not know the meaning of at that point and they never have a reply. The "it does not make any sense at all" people are simply lazy. Even with dyslexia you can make out many terms, so it would be an issue of learning the others. But if EVERYTHING is a problem, no effort is being made. At that point I just tell the person that without knowing the underlying issue there is nothing I can do because I can help them but I can't do the work for them.

In Mathematics I get very annoyed sometimes when I'm trying to guide someone through the problem and someone else comes along and just gives the answer or goes through the solution without any comments. This latter may be alright in some cases but we don't always know that.
