A cab company charges a fixed amount, plus a fee based on the distance traveled. The rate chart for the company is shown: @HelpBlahBlahBlah Help pls?

OpenStudy (krazykricket):

Where is the Chart??

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

I just added it :)

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

What is the fixed amount charged? $3 $8 $11 $12

OpenStudy (krazykricket):

If you take the chart and do this to it |dw:1423597903461:dw|

OpenStudy (krazykricket):

It adds by 3 everytime

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

@KrazyKricket I got that answer the first time. But i wasn't soo soo sure about it. Thank you so much.

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

Can you help me on one more question?

OpenStudy (krazykricket):

Sure

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

Great. Thanks. So the question is asking what is the slope of y= 9x - 2 And MY question is HOW do you find the slope?

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

And what is the slope?

OpenStudy (krazykricket):

To calculate the slope of a line you need only two points from that line, (x1, y1) and (x2, y2). The equation used to calculate the slope from two points is: On a graph, this can be represented as: There are three steps in calculating the slope of a straight line when you are not given its equation.

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

I'm not quite understanding. It did give me the equation. it is y = 9x - 2.. Look, this is the question it is asking me ; The equation shows the relationship between x and y: y = 9x − 2 What is the slope of the equation? −9 −2 7 9

OpenStudy (krazykricket):

The slope is 9

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

You find the slope by making a graph? You make a graph and that's how you find the slope?

OpenStudy (nathaliama13):

Thanks. I still have to practice on that.

OpenStudy (krazykricket):

Sorry about the confusion tho.
