When to use La and Las/Les? French. When talking about objects, not gender.
You use the articles le, la, and les(las comes from Spanish and isn't found in French) depending on the spelling and/or quantity of the object. Although there are exceptions to the rule, this is true for most words. Feminine objects can usually be identified as ending in /-e/. (la connaissance, la musique, la fille, etc.) Masculine objects can usually be identified when they do not end in /-e/. (le garçon, le lion, etc. Les is used when there are more than one of the object in question, regardless of being a masculine or feminine noun. ( les chats, les livres, les personnes, les cheveux, etc.) With la and le there are exceptions to the rule, like I said, but these just require memorization: /le/ livre, /la/ chanson, /la/ télévision, /la/ fleur, et beaucoup d'autres... Hope that helps!
