Directrix (directrix):

This number family diagram may help. See attached.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

@Directrix Thanks! This makes so much sense!

Directrix (directrix):

@InExileWeTrust would you check and see if you posted the question exactly as it appears in your text?

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

I did, I copied and pasted it from there.

Directrix (directrix):

Well, something is weird. The number 4 belongs to each of the listed sets.

Directrix (directrix):

If you have answer options, post them. And, please check the answer options. In the copy and pasting, sometimes portions of words do not copy for some reason.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

I did, these are the options

Directrix (directrix):

The number 4 does not belong to which set of numbers? whole numbers rational numbers integers real numbers Answer: None of them

Directrix (directrix):

Question: The number NEGATIVE 4 does not belong to which set of numbers? Now, that is a different question with an answer listed in the options.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

it says negative four... thanks for catching that one!

Directrix (directrix):

So, look at the number family chart and choose what you think is the correct answer. Post what you get, and we'll compare, okay?

Directrix (directrix):

Take each option and look at it against the number chart.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

I have been thinking it is not a real number.

Directrix (directrix):

Not correct.

Directrix (directrix):

Take the first option: whole numbers Look on the number chart for whole numbers and see if -4 is listed.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

thee word natural is cut off. I only have 1-3

Directrix (directrix):

What is the smallest whole number shown on the chart.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

1 or 0

Directrix (directrix):

Whole numbers is above the naturals in the chart. Look at the Whole Numbers, not the Natural Numbers. They are not the same set.

Directrix (directrix):

>>1 or 0 No. The smallest whole number is 0. The set of whole numbers is the set which looks like this: {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ..............} Question: Is NEGATIVE 4 in that set? -->

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

no, so -4 is not a whole number

Directrix (directrix):

That is correct. There is the answer.

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

Thanks! Can you help me with one more please?

Directrix (directrix):

In a new post, maybe. Close this post and write your question in a new one. And, please check to see that all parts of the question show up. :)

OpenStudy (inexilewetrust):

Okay, thank you so much!

Directrix (directrix):

You are welcome.
