Question about Direct Answers...

OpenStudy (conqueror):

What happens when a user gives a direct answer, and then another user comes along and says that he/she agrees with the user who gave a direct answer. Would the user who agreed with the user who gave the direct answer ALSO be breaking the CoC ?

OpenStudy (conqueror):

I'm thinking 'yes'

JoelTheBoss (joel_the_boss):

Doubt it tbh, if you agree then you must have some sort of background knowledge which is supporting the direct answer, which is also confirming its right, you just don't wander around OS saying yes and no to random answers, you must've done some sort of scan in your head or online, to think if its right. Understand my point? It's not a big deal. If they would have also said the answer and just left then , yes it is a direct answer. Agreeing isn't giving an answer, its... well agreeing. xD Sorry if I didn't explain clear enough.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Yes, it wouldn't be a big deal actually. It depends on the situation I guess.

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Like, if one user says "the answer is B" And then another user comes and says "Yes, it's B" (agreeing to the user who said "the answer is B")

sammixboo (sammixboo):

In that case, and in my opinion, yes

sammixboo (sammixboo):

I usually report both users

OpenStudy (kainui):

You can report one or both, it doesn't really matter. Once a moderator gets there, we'll see everything. When I see things like this happen, I give both of them warnings not to give direct answers, and delete their posts.

OpenStudy (confluxepic):

I just report the first user. The second users mostly agree because someone else said it.

OpenStudy (kainui):

I think there's sort of a misconception as to what "Report Abuse" actually does. It just creates a little popup just like when you have a new reply to a question that every moderator who's online can see. In a way, it's like directly messaging all moderators online at the same time and is more effective than trying to message a single moderator since they may not be online, or (like usually at this time of day OS lags too much for me to effectively do anything unless I click the "delete" button 20 times). The report button will tell us simply who sent the report, who was reported, and a link to what they reported and it will also give a message of what you might have written. In and of itself, reporting doesn't actually do anything, so there's no harm in doing it. If you are in doubt, go ahead and report it, no harm done. But there's really no reason to report more than a single post in a question since once a moderator is there, they'll be able to deal with the whole situation.
