PLEASE HELP ME

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sleepyjess

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmmm pick a point on either the shaded "true" area or the non-shaded "false" area any point, let's test the options

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Also, since it is a dotted line, you can eliminate two answer choices.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmm true bear in mind that a "dotted" or "dashed" line, means \(\Large >\ or \ <\) as opposed to a "solid" line that means \(\Large \le\ or \ \ge\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got B

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

That is incorrect. Can you show us how you got that?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well....hmm so.... got point?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hehehe

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

why not just pick a point, on either the shaded or not side, and let's check it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I figured B because I though the dotted line ment < with line under

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also because its on this side <

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Yes, usually it does. HOWEVER, since this is not in slope-intercept form, that method does not work. Notice how it is -4. That means that to move into slope-intercept form, you would have to divide by a negative number. @jdoe0001 's method of plugging in a point helps you solve without having to convert the answer choices into slope-intercpet form. I hope that makes sense. :)

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

-4y, i mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a or c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@StudyGurl14 @jdoe0001

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmmm you're meant to do the exercise though, that's the idea, to understand it rather than to pick a letter

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Look at what @jdoe0001 put. dotted line means either < or >. Solid line means either \(\ge\) or \(\le\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no I chose C because I crossed out two that wouldnt make sense A and D cross out B because Yes, usually it does. HOWEVER, since this is not in slope-intercept form, that method does not work So C

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Sorry, I misread your previous comment. I didn't realize you thought dotted line meant \(\ge\) or \(\le\), cause it doesn't.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

No, it's not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it for sure A @StudyGurl14

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

No, sorry. It's not A. Did you try plugging in a point like @jdoe0001 told you to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes im not good at this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not A not B not C .... Its D because would have to divide by a negative number, plugging in a point helps you solve without having to convert the answer choices into slope-intercpet form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@StudyGurl14

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

Correct. D is correct, haha, it's the only one left.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
