Which of the following has a graph that is a straight line? Equation 1: y = 4x3 + 6 Equation 2: y = 5x − 4.5 Equation 3: y2 = x − 1 Equation 4: y = 2x2 + 6

If you could help me on a few that's would be great!

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

Which equation has x or y that is \(not\) to the power of something?

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

Where neither one is to the power of something I mean ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hm, Maybe the 2nd one? :o

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! :D

OMG, Thanks!!!!

I've got one more, Which statement best explains whether y = 2x − 3 is a linear function or a nonlinear function? It is a linear function because the graph contains the points (0, −3), (1, −1), (2, 1), which are on a straight line. It is a nonlinear function because the graph contains the points (0, −3), (1, −1), (2, 1), which are not on a straight line. It is a linear function because the graph contains the points (−3, 0), (−1, 1), (1, 2), which are on a straight line. It is a nonlinear function because the graph contains the points (−3, 0), (−1, 1), (1, 2), which are not on a straight line. Don't tell me the full answer I want to figure it out like the last one!

Try posting each question in a new post ;)

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

But all you need to do is plug in the points and solve and the points that make the equation equal, then that is the correct answer. :) You can already tell it is ______ because it is not squared or anything ;)

Thank you, You've been a big help. :)

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

You're welcome :)
