OpenStudy (shes.radical):

I don't jus want the answer, I want the walk through too. Select the correct slope and y-intercept for the following equation. x-y=3x-7 A.) Slope m=-2, y-intercept b=7 B.)Slope m=2, y-intercept b=-7 C.) Slope m=-2, y-intercept b=-7 D.) Slope m=3, y-intercept b=-7

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

is it \[x-y=3x-7\]?

OpenStudy (shes.radical):

yes

OpenStudy (misty1212):

if you want the slope and the y intercept, you have to make it look like \[y=mx+b\] that means you need to solve for \(y\)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

this should take only two steps 1) subtract \(x\) from both sides 2) change all the signs (multiply by \(-1)\)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

let me know what you get, or if it is still not too clear

OpenStudy (shes.radical):

Why multiply by -1?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

because when you subtract \(x\) from both sides, you will have \(-y\) on the left, and you want \(y\) not \(-y\)

OpenStudy (shes.radical):

ohhhh ok

OpenStudy (shes.radical):

okay that makes sense now xD thanks!
