Another marince science question! WIll fan and medal :) The picture to the question will be posted soon :) Rachel Carson wrote about the delicate balance of organisms in a food web. Snakeheads, a freshwater fish that is not normally found in the United States, was accidentally introduced to the Potomac River, which flows into the Chesapeake Bay. As an adult, the Snakehead would feed on crustaceans, small fish, reptiles, and even small mammals. It would not have any predators in this environment. Considering the food web below, what potential impact could a similar organism have on the

what is the question

The question is the paragraph above; I'll retype it again: Rachel Carson wrote about the delicate balance of organisms in a food web. Considering the food web below, what potential impact could a similar organism have on the ecosystem?

The food web is the picture I attached to the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is the real question because i am not understanding what it is asking for.???????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's asking if an organism similar to the snakeheads was introduced to the environment in the picture, what would be the impact on the food web

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm thinking along the lines of: If an organism similar to the snakeheads was introduced to the marine environment, it would have a devastating effect on the food web. The organism would eat the crustaceans and small fish that the large fish depend on. This would cause the large fish population to decrease and the marine mammals wouldn't get enough fish and humans would have a decline of large fish to eat. On the other hand, the zooplankton (which is eaten by marine animals) would have an increase in population because there are not a lot of small fish and crustaceans eating them.

Is that a good answer? @kendallcrider @sethRB26DETT
