Just need your help!! Use f(x)=2x-3 and g(x)=1-x^2 to evaluate the following expressions. (f g)(-8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I research your problem and think this might help... http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/72064.html

OpenStudy (mtalhahassan2):

@Mimi_x3

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

f(g(-8)) This is called composite functions .. we work from the right to the left or innermost function first ... Lets focus on the g(-8) Ok our first step is to take our function of g(x) and replace every x with -8 So g(-8)=1-(-8)^2 Solve for g(-8)

OpenStudy (mtalhahassan2):

g(-8)= -63

OpenStudy (mtalhahassan2):

@Mimi_x3

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

Hey sorry .. got busy

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

Ok now g(-8)=-63 Sooo we can replace the g(-8) with -63 Therefore f(g(-8)) =f(-63) So now the next step would be to replace every x in our function f with -63

OpenStudy (freckles):

is it multiplication or a composition? (fg)(x) should mean f(x)*g(x) I belive and f(g(x)) is f composed with g

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

hmmm you are mostprobably right lol

OpenStudy (mtalhahassan2):

so what do I have to do know

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

ummm Im more and more leaning to what freckles said

OpenStudy (mtalhahassan2):

so know do I have to solve for f

OpenStudy (mimi_x3):

Hey can you do me a favour and draw out the symbol of (f*g)(-8) What sign is in btwn the f and g????

OpenStudy (mtalhahassan2):

I guess there is a degree sign
