When a line is perpendicular to another line, what is the relationship between slopes?

OpenStudy (sparklestaraa):

they are equal

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Not exactly The slopes equal -1 c:

OpenStudy (neonumbrella5115):

That's true when the lines are Parallel to each other. Howvere, when lines are perpendicular, you take the opposite reciprocal of the original slope to get the new slope. EXAMPLE: \[y=1/2x+\] is parallel to \[y=-2x+3\]
