it depends....I use substitution in this case : x + y = 4 x + 2y = 14 this way, you can solve for x or y in the 1st equation and then sub that into the 2nd equation. 2x + 3y = 6 4x + 2y = 12 I would use elimination on this because you would just have to multiply 1st equation by -2 to eliminate the x's, and then solve for y. You can use graphing for either one of these equations..I just think it is personal preference which method you chose to use.
