OpenStudy (itsyacoolgrl):

Waterweed grows near the surface of the water in lakes and ponds. It often grows in dense clumps. It has been observed that the chloroplasts in this plant move around inside the cell. How might this be an advantage and a disadvantage to the plant? Keep in mind the function of the chloroplast.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I assume you mean lemna minor (waterweed) the chloroplasts move around in the cell to take in the maximum available solar energy. I live in the Tropics so a lot of the vegetation is now dormant in the dry season..It will increase dramatically in the wet season starting in June. In northern hemispheres it is believed that conifers and broadleaved evergreen trees retain their chlorophyll all year long so as to give them a head start in the spring.
