can someone explain margin of error to me
margin of error is a ratio approximating to what degree of confidence a sample's error could be right or wrong. The higher the percentage the more likely the results are erroroneous.
wow im dumb lol
A survey has a margin error of +/– 5%. In the survey, 91 out of 100 people said that they were pleased with their phone service. The phone company has 8000 customers. What is the range of the number of people that are satisfied? A. 6916 to 7644 people B. 6619 to 7644 people C. 6900 to 7685 people D. 6926 to 7644 people
i stuck on this @Rhystic help plz
Basically the margin of error will vary depending on the confidence level of the tolerance you wish your sample percentage to be within. If you take 1000 people and want a 95% percent confidence level your equation would look like: 1.96* ((percentage of people answered same converted to decimal)*(remaining percentage of people that did have the answer as previous converted to decimal) / total sample group size)^.5 The 1.96 is taken from a chart for 95% deviation. You have to look up that value depending on the confidence level you wish. The percentage of people that answered one way + the remaining percentage of people that did not have that answer should always equal 1.0 (note that in the equation you are multiplying the two values though)
tanx now can u explain it to as if i were a 10 year old or younger plz
im dumb and a little bit slow
Sorry; so you have a 91% satisfaction rate +/- 5%. The customer base is 8000 so : 8000*(.91)(.95) = 6916 & 8000*(.91)(1.05) = 7644 Don't make the mistake of adding and subtracting 5% from the 91% as that means you are saying the range is with 100% certainty 91% of the population which doesn't make any sense. You need to find the inital 91% of 8000 and then take +/- 5 % of that number.
ok thanks
