Solve the system using elimination. 11x - 13y = 89 -11x + 13y = 107

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

Do i have to use elimination or can i use something else

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it has to be elimination that is why I am having trouble. :/

OpenStudy (holly00d1248):

Then sorry I cant help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thanks for trying

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you should find that the 11x and the -11x add to 0x. So the x terms go away the same happens to y as well

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

on the left side, after you add, you should get 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's no solution

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

on the right side, add the numbers 89 and 107 to get 196 so after you add the equations, you get 0 = 196, which is false. So there are no solutions. This system is inconsistent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Everything on the left side cancels out so you get 0= 196 so the final answer is no solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! I totally forgot that I could say no solution lol...

Thanks for helping! @jim_thompson5910 @Iramos1998
