Solve the following system using elimination. 3x + 6y = 42 -7x + 8y = -109

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why are there 2 x's for the first equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry I meant 6y not 6x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 4,2 can i have a medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks, can you explain how you got there though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes of corce what you do first is you put then together so you subtract the x's and the y's then you keep going

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got (15,-1/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you cant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because the answer has to be in numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I added them and after you add them you get -4x + 14y = 67, but with elimination you have to isolate a variable and then subsitute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plug in my answers X= 15 Y= -1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but isolate a variable and make it so that it is equal to just a number not a number and another variable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oow i see my mistake thanks so you do that and keep going until you divivde when you divide you can stop and thats your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so you're right @Iramos1998 , but how did you get to that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My work is sloppy but I'm positive I got the correct answers and @mystery... Can have the medal :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can redo the work neatly if you need me t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No it's okay thank you so much! :)
