Which word in the sentence is the predicate nominative? Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day. A. meal B. breakfast C. important D. day
ok so what would you say the subject of this sentence is?
A predicate nominative is word or group of words that follows a linking verb or verb phrase such as is, are, was, has been, and can be.
breakfast
ok so what word is most linked to that word?
meal?'
yeah, thats what i would choose.
ok
Yep!! Great job!
would you agree @Tjbrew
yay!
Which word in the sentence is the predicate nominative? My grandfather’s hobby has been pottery for many years. A. hobby B. years C. pottery D. grandfather's
Ideas?
Remember a predicate nominative completes a linking verb (any form of the verb To Be) and renames the subject.
so "has been" is the linking verb...and the subject is hobby, so what word renames or can be used to rename "hobby". In other words, a linking verb always links the predicate nominative back to the subject. so they are essentially one and the same thing...
its pottery right?
Exactly!! Great job!! :)
