is C6H12O6 organic or inorganic?
i think its inorganic becuase it contain an oxide?
ok nvm its organic but how? i thought that if the compound contains an oxide at the end its inorganic?
it's a sugar
which is organic
Is there any other way to tell or ? @arronq
@aaronq
C6H12O6 well it has carbon and hydrogen, clear indicators of an organic compound
Ok but my notes say it excludes oxides, so would it only matter when it's like carbon ____ oxide? @aarronq
Keep spelling your name wrong haha @aaronq
Example would be carbon dioxide or something
I think if the molecule has primarily carbon-carbon or carbon-hydrogen bonds then it's an organic molecule. It's not always but it's a good indication
the molecule above is glucose, and I believe every scientist would agree that it's an organic molecule
it's not necessarily glucose, it could be any 6 carbon sugar, like mannose or galactose. I mean, the categories of organic/inorganic don't really mean anything. they come from when people used to think that materials from living things had special properties and could not be replicated in the lab...but i guess they want you to be able to differentiate them. If they have C and H in the formula, it's most likely organic.
Ok thank you!!
no problem !
