Is the example a complete sentence, sentence fragment, or run-on sentence? The bird dove swiftly then it landed gently on the branch. A. complete sentence B. sentence fragment C. run-on sentence 7th grade Grammer Help plz medal+ fan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a

OpenStudy (conqueror):

It's not a complete sentence. The bird dove swiftly, then it landed gently on the branch. There should be a comma after swiftly.

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

do you understand why there should be a comma? @ohva.student

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so b

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i do

OpenStudy (conqueror):

No, it's not B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is not

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

ohhh yeah. sorry :(

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Sentence fragments only occur when there is no subject or verb.

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

I didn't pay close enough attention.

OpenStudy (conqueror):

'bird' is the subject, and 'dove' is the verb.

OpenStudy (conqueror):

That's ok, everyone makes mistakes. ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx i am so horrible at this subject

OpenStudy (conqueror):

@ohva.student So do you know what your answer is and why ?

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

it's okay. :) we're here to help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c and i have no idea why

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Run on sentences occur when there is not proper punctuation and when 2 independent clauses join together.

OpenStudy (conqueror):

1st clause: The bird dove swiftly 2nd clause: then it landed gently on the branch.

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

no it's not @taylorf2244 there is a dependent clause and an independent clause... there needs to be a comma separating the 2 clauses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now i am confused

OpenStudy (conqueror):

@ohva.student See how that direct answer above doesn't help you at all ? He doesn't guide you with understanding.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thanks again

OpenStudy (conqueror):

No problem.

OpenStudy (conqueror):

Make sure to refuse direct answers. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
