If the midpoint of point P (-2, -3) and point Q is point R (-5, 10), what are the coordinates of point Q? (-8, 23) (8, -23) (-8, -23) (8, 23)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is how it is worded

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from -2 to -5 is left 3 units go another 3 to the left and you end up at -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so where is the 23 going?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@satellite73

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the 23 be -23?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im just gonig to guest C cause you left me guessing @satellite73

OpenStudy (aum):

Do a similar thing with the y-coordinate what satellite did with the x-coordinate. Except instead of left and right it will be up and down with the y-coordinate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the 23 would be negative on the y axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aum

OpenStudy (aum):

R is the midpoint of PQ. The y-coordinate of P is: -3. The y-coordinate of R is: 10 So from P we have to go 13 units UP to get to R. { 10 - (-3) = 13 units }. So to get to point Q, we need to go 13 units further UP from R: 10 + 13 = 23. So the y-coordinate of R is 23.
