{Please check comments for image!} (b) Mrs. Ferguson wants to know the area of the bathroom. The hotel website stated that the area of the bathroom is 30% of the hotel room. Mrs. Ferguson says, “Since this means the dimensions of the bathroom are also 30% of the dimensions of the hotel room, I can find the area of the bathroom by finding 30% of the length and 30% of the width of the room and multiplying these numbers.” Is Mrs. Ferguson correct? Explain your answer and show work to support your answer.

@misty1212

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

brb

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

back!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

hi!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

ms ferguson is an idiot lets do an example

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

... ok :P

OpenStudy (misty1212):

suppose the dimensions were \(100\times 100=10,000\) square feet then \(30\%\) of \(100\) is \(30\) and \(30\times 30=900\)

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

rite

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\(900\) is not \(30\%\) of \(10,000\) it is only \(9\%\)

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

mhmm

OpenStudy (misty1212):

so the answer is she is way wrong

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\(30\%\times 30\%=0.3\times .03=0.09=9\%\)

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

rite

OpenStudy (misty1212):

that is all

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

ok, same image but diff question @misty1212 (c) When Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson arrive at their room, Mr. Ferguson decides to check whether the measurement on the website is correct. He measures the side labeled 5 in. on the drawing and finds that it is 13 ft long in the room. Is the scale on the drawing, 1 in. = 2.5 ft, correct? If not, what should the scale be? Show your work

OpenStudy (misty1212):

i hate geometry

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

awe. srry

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

its ok then

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

ill figure it out

OpenStudy (misty1212):

we can do it anyways no problem

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

o, ok! thx

OpenStudy (misty1212):

if 1 inch is 2.5 feet, then 5 inches is \(5\times 2.5=12.5\) feet so the scale is wrong

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

o, ok

OpenStudy (misty1212):

the scale should be \(\frac{13}{5}=2.6\) i.e. 1 inch is 2.6 feet

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

oh

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

@ribhu

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

the 2nd question!

OpenStudy (ribhu):

k

OpenStudy (ribhu):

which one?

OpenStudy (ribhu):

both have been done

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

i kno... but do u agree with the 2nd one?
