Read this line from the text: The now ghastly pallor of the skin, and the now miraculous lustre of the eye, above all things startled and even awed me. -surprised and distressed -angered and enraged -offended and insulted -pleased and comforted I but D. Can someone please help? :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would think A, since she's startled.

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

Well the writer says "startled" which is a synonym for surprise, and describes everything before that in a sad tone, so...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you, that's what I was going with as well and then I changed to D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you maybe help with like one more?

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

Sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

Read this line from the text: What have I, or those i represent, to do with your national independence? What does Douglass mean by the question? -he does not know the history of the holiday. -he wants to leave America for another citizenship -he wants to point out that many do not have freedom -he wants to share his feelings about the recent war I went with C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe A, I'm completely sure, he's questioning why does he or the people he represent matter to there national independence.

Thank you so much :)
